FAQ's
What can I expect from a tasting?
Our tastings are sit-down, engaging, guided tastings run with our staff. There are tiers of tasting options available, covering our most popular wines, our Single Vineyard specific wines, and our extra special R. Lane Vintners wines. Tasings will typically take around 45min duration. Introductory tastings include 50ml pours of 5 wines, equivalent to 250mls of wine. Short tours of the winery and tasting direct from barrels or tanks will also form part of the single vineyard and R. Lane Vintners tasting experiences, and will take 10-15 min at the beginning of your tasting experience before the seated tasting. Expect to have your head filled with knowledge as well as your mouth filled with delicious wine! Booked tastings receive discounted retail pricing
Do you serve meals?
Our wine experiences are more about the liquid than the solid, so don't expect an extensive menu. We offer cheese boards, charcuterie and simple snacks that go well with a glass, but we are not currently equipped for full meal service. Function packages and events can certainly be catered in consultation with our staff.
Is the tasting room Child Friendly?
We are a small venue of approximately 20 seats, and located on a suburban street, so there is not a lot of room for kids to run around. Children are of course welcome, but we encourage you to consider whether it is going to be fun for them. Our experiences are educational and engaging, but all about wine.
Can I just come for a glass of wine, rather than a full tasting?
Of course we welcome people to come with friends and share a glass or two. We are an intimate venue with limited seating and a small staff so priority is given to those that book ahead. We suggest you call ahead to understand availability.
Do you have non-alcoholic and non-wine options?
Wine is our main game but we also distil Gin, for the spirit lovers out there. For the non-drinkers and designated drivers we offer soft drinks and non-alcoholic beverage options from great local providers, but these do not form part of the regular tasting flights.
Is the venue dog or pet friendly?
There is space at the front of the building to tie up your dog if you have come for a walk, but we are unable to have dogs inside the building as it is a food production facility. We'll make sure they have a dish to drink from, and some shade down the side if need be.
How do I get there?
We are located at 47 Alex Avenue, Moorabbin, Victoria 3189. It is an urban location, a short 100m from the busy South Road. There is street parking and a small number of spots on the property to park. Bus services run to the corner of Alex Avenue and South Rd., and Moorabbin train station is the closest rain station, only 5 min drive from our door.
Do you have a vineyard in the city?
It's often said "wine is made in the vineyard" but if you're expecting acres of green foliage and rolling hills, you might be disappointed. Our fully functioning winery is very much 'urban', so it's city streets and concrete (and luxe wood panelling and leather seats and deliciousness). But no vines. They're out in the Grampians, 250km west of here.
Do you do group bookings?
Yes! However our tasting room's largest table seats 10. We may be able to accommodate larger groups with plenty of notice, or for private functions. Contact bookings@thestory.com.au for more information
