Rhône Valley varieties and the conviction that they are destined for greatness in the Grampians, in our humble opinion.
Searching for this greatness, I was able to secure a little Mourvèdre from Moyston alongside our Grenache and Syrah. A simple blend of one third of each has made an incredibly vibrant, taught and chiselled, medium-bodied red. Equal parts mulberry and pepper, with clean acidity to finish.
Much like the Super Tuscans added Cabernet or Merlot or Syrah to their Sangiovese in the 1980s and 1990s to breathe new life into a traditional region, I think these blends can add something exciting to the power of Grampians Syrah/Shiraz. Super G is the start of that voyage of discovery for us. Also, Super S sounds silly.
