The Story Wines is oddly located in a drab, southern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. There we receive grapes from some fabulous Grampians and Henty vineyards, and turn them into wine. Each vintage there is a new story to tell, and each year our label changes to reflect that story. Small budgets, small vineyards, engaging subjects.

2014 Port Campbell Pinot Noir

Cellar Door

From an obscure site capable of producing some very interesting wine due to its extreme climate. 15min inland from Port Campbell, home of the 12 apostles, is Newton’s Ridge Vineyard. It is a very small site planted from cuttings in 1998 to the MV6 clone of Pinot Noir, on brown and grey fertile loam soils over limestone bedrock. 2014 was a warm year, but with tiny yields, of only 800kg! The wine starts with a big impact of strawberry, blueberry and earth, and builds through the palate with spices and more ripe red fruits. It was matured without racking in one, two year old puncheon for 11 months. 2014 achieves the flavour ripeness and fruit tannins of 2012, but at lower alcohol and with less artifice and sulphide

– Vine Age: 16 years
– 13.0% alc.pH3.58
– Total Acidity 6.0g/l
