The Story Wines is oddly located in a drab, southern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. There we receive grapes from some fabulous Grampians and Henty vineyards, and turn them into wine. Each vintage there is a new story to tell, and each year our label changes to reflect that story. Small budgets, small vineyards, engaging subjects.

2012 “Tinkers” Grampians Shiraz

Cellar Door

The final chapter of our “T” trilogy, Tinkers refers to both the traditional Irish Gypsies and a modern group of skilled project workers who travel between companies, much like the way we ply our trade across vineyards. We don’t own our vineyards, winery, office, or even, from 2012, a home. Tinkers is the product of a warm, early but even vintage that avoided heat spikes and had adequate rainfall. It mixes classic Grampians pepper and spice with lifted whole bunch aromatics, medium body and juicy blue and red fruits. This year’s wine is a blend of the warmer, granite Jallukar Ridge Vineyard (38%), the cooler, 43 yr old Westgate Vineyard (32%) and the balance from the fleshy Rice’s Vineyard (27%). There is also, for the first time, a very small amount of Grenache for extra lift and to open the texture. As always, wild yeast fermented, unfined, unfiltered.

– Vine Age: approx 29 years
– 13.5% alc. pH 3.52
– Total Acidity 6.5/l
